On May 12, 1933, he led the historic general hunger strike across the radial wings. Five days later, when colonial doctors attempted a brutal forced feeding, the 28-year-old titan fought back with his dying breath. In the violent struggle, the tube was forced into his lungs, flooding them with milk.

Mahavir chose an agonizing death over surrender. In panic, the British authorities weighted his body with stones and cast it into the deep waters of the Bay of Bengal under cover of midnight—desperate to drown the evidence of their crime.

They drowned the man, but they ignited an unstoppable storm. His martyrdom shattered the prison regime, forced the British Empire to its knees, and permanently ended the horrors of the Andaman penal colony.
